Megan Faure, co-founder of the seminars and co-author of the book Baby Sense comments, “Having a new baby can be very daunting. We recognise those fears and give parents the tools and information they need to understand their newborn babies and care for their physical and emotional needs effectively.”
Baby Sense conducted a poll on social networking site Facebook in May, asking mothers about their biggest fears were when it came to parenting. An overwhelming fear among new parents – over 30% - is crime. The next most common fear – almost 30% - is SIDS (also known as cot death).
Megan says, “The survey helps us to address these fears and anxieties with informative and practical advice.” The talk on sleep, for instance, touches on sleep safety, and what parents can do to minimise the risk of SIDS.
Here’s what else moms and dads can expect:
The morning session, The Johnson’s Baby Womb to World Seminar, addresses the needs of parents who are pregnant or have a newborn baby. It covers the practicalities of care, as well as the concerns and issues that come with that stage of parenting. The focus is on pregnancy, birth, feeding and the basics of newborn care. Parents can expect a highly informative and very practical session, and to come away with ideas and advice that they can put into practise immediately in their own lives. Every speaker is a well-regarded expert in her particular field:
Tina Otte: Birthing Options - sponsored by Netcare
Megan Faure: From Womb to World - sponsored by Pfizer
Karen Hansen, form Johnson’s Baby: Baby Massage, a Touch of Love - sponsored by Johnson’s Baby
Katherine Megaw: Feeding your Baby in the First Four Months
Sr Anne Richardson: Newborn Basics sponsored - by Centrum Materna
The afternoon session will focus on specific developmental, emotional and practical issues. Speakers will share their expertise about the all-important subjects that generate the most questions and concerns: sleep, feeding and baby health. Importantly, parents will be given the tips for soothing and settling their babies, leading to a happier and calmer family life for all, and for stimulating their babies age-appropriately. They will leave the day with real practical skills, and more confidence in their parenting. Again, an impressive line-up of experts has been scheduled:
Megan Faure: Stimulating your Baby and Toddler - sponsored by Netcare
Dr Simon Strachan: Happy Baby Healthy Baby - sponsored by Pfizer
Sr Anne Richardson: Peaceful Nights – Sleep Solutions - sponsored by Floradix
Karen Hansen, Johnson’s Baby: Bedtime Routine - sponsored by Johnson’s Baby
