Introducing solids

The 6-month shuffle - introducing solids

Current thinking is that solids should not be introduced before 16 weeks. Many babies are not in a hurry to start solids, and lots will only show interest at 6 months.
This is called the 6-month shuffle as it is recommended that babies be exclusively breastfed for the first 6 months. This is the ideal, but does not always work out for a variety of reasons, especially for the back to work mum who might find exclusive breastfeeding difficult or impossible.
